How to Fix VPN Error 711

One of my users just came to my room reporting issues with his laptop’s VPN (VPN Error 711).

The Error Code was:

Connection failed with error 711.

The operation could not finish because it could not start the Remote Access Connection Manager service in time. Please try the operation again.

This problem can occur if some or all of the following services are not started:

  • Plug and Play
  • Remote Access Auto Connection Manager
  • Remote Access Connection Manager
  • Telephony

So, to resolve this issue, enable the disabled services, and then start the services following the blow steps:

  • Click Start on your taskbar and type services.msc in the Search box.
  • Right-click services, and then click Run as administrator.
  • Locate Plug and Play and make sure is started (should be started by default).
  • Next, locate and right-click Remote Access Auto Connection Manager in the right pane of the Services window, and then click Properties.
  • Select Manual from the Startup type drop-down menu under the General tab.
  • Click Apply to save your changes.
  • Click Start to start the service.
  • Click OK to exit Remote Access Auto Connection Manager Properties dialogue box.
  • Next, locate and right-click Remote Access Connection Manager in the right pane of the Services window, and then click Properties.
  • Select Manual from the Startup type drop-down menu under the General tab.
  • Click Apply to save your changes.
  • Click Start to start the service.
  • Click OK to exit Remote Access Auto Manager Properties dialogue box.
  • Next, locate and right-click Telephony in the right pane of the Services window, and then click Properties.
  • Select Manual from the Startup type drop-down menu under the General tab.
  • Click Apply to save your changes.
  • Click Start to start the service.
  • Click OK to exit Telephony Properties dialogue box.
  • Finally, close the Services window.

You do not need to reboot your device, just try to connect to you VPN connection.
