Block a Sender in Gmail

Gmail is the most used & best free email service in the world.

It provides plenty of features to the users and a very simple and user interface. Most of the people around the world are shifting from other email service to Gmail. Some of its features are:

  • Storage: Gmail provides 15GB of free storage to its users (shared across Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos). You can use this free storage for Google Drive and Google Plus photos. If you are with Gmail, you don’t have to worry about going out of storage space.
  • Security: As Gmail is world’s biggest tech organization Google, security should not be the point to worry about. Gmail comes with some of the best security features in industry. These features include HTTPS, malware & phishing protection and best anti-spam shield. It also provide two-step authentication feature.
  • Productivity: Gmail also includes hefty productivity features. As Gmail is integrated with Google Drive, you can send email attachments up to 10GB. All of the emails are organized in four tabs Primary, Social, Promotions and Updates by default. It supports both POP and IMAP. You can search the email right from inbox.
  • Send Money: Gmail has also got a feature of sending money. This feature is available in few countries now.
  • Mobile Apps: Gmail apps for mobile is available for Android and iOS.

In addition to the above Google does an excellent job how Gmail handles spam. On top of that recently a new block feature is being rolled out to Gmail users on the Web and on Android. This feature allows users to block a sender in Gmail. so, here is how:

Web:

  • Log into your Gmail account;
  • Open the email from the sender you would like to block;
  • Click the Down Arrow located beside the “Reply” button, then select Block “user name” from the drop-down menu.

  • You’ll receive a warning that blocking this user will send his/her future emails directly to your SPAM folder. Click the Block button to block this user;

  • Once you click the Block button, you will receive a confirmation in the main body of the email that you successfully block the specific user.

Android:

  • Open your Gmail app;
  • Open the email from the sender you would like to block;
  • Click the More button (three vertical dots) next to the Reply/Reply located beside the “Reply” button;

  • Then select Block “user name” from the drop-down menu.

  • Once you click the Block button, you will receive a confirmation in the main body of the email that you successfully block the specific user.

Following the above steps, all the emails from the specific email address will be redirected to your spam folder.

You can always revert the process by following the above steps and choosing Unblock from the same menu.
