Create a Shortcut to Lock Your Computer

The fastest way to lock your computer is to use Win+L keyboard shortcut or Ctrl+Alt+Del and then Lock this computer. Alternatively click the Start Button, and on the bottom right click the right arrow and click lock.

This article will cover how to create a shortcut to lock your computer as an alternatively option.

Note: this method works for XP, Vista, Win7 and Win8.

  • Right click on an empty space on your Desktop, choose New, and then Shortcut.
  • In the dialog box that pops up enter the following code in the shortcut textbox:

rundll32 user32.dll,LockWorkStation

  • Click on next, enter a name for the shortcut and click Finish.

You will be able to lock your computer by double clicking on the created shortcut on your Desktop. Alternatively you can add this shortcut to the Quick Launch toolbar to lock your system with only a single click.
